Former Melaka Chief Minister Sulaiman Won't Contest State Election
Sulaiman Md Ali, who stepped down as Melaka's chief minister in 2023 to make way for successor Ab Rauf Yusoh, has decided against seeking re-election after three terms representing the Lendu constituency.

The former chief minister's decision marks the end of his electoral journey in Melaka after more than a decade of representation in the state assembly. Sulaiman had previously held the top state position before voluntarily relinquishing the role to facilitate the transition to Ab Rauf Yusoh's administration.
His three-term tenure in the Lendu seat saw him establish a significant political presence in the constituency. The move to step aside had been viewed as part of succession planning within the state's ruling coalition, allowing younger leadership to take the helm.
The upcoming Melaka state election will see a number of changes to the political landscape as sitting representatives make decisions about their electoral futures. Sulaiman's withdrawal from the contest represents a significant shift in state politics, as he had been a prominent figure in Melaka's administrative hierarchy.
The decision to retire from electoral politics comes as the state prepares for the next round of assembly polls. Political observers will be watching closely to see how the constituency realigns without the long-serving representative.
