Former MP Vijayasai Reddy pledges Tirupati prohibition, TTD overhaul

Former MP Vijayasai Reddy has announced plans to impose prohibition across Tirupati and establish a new governance framework for the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) if his proposed political party comes to power.

Reddy has committed to transferring security operations at the Tirumala temple complex to central government agencies, a significant shift from current state-level oversight. He also plans to constitute a "Dharmic board" to oversee the temple's management, signaling a departure from existing administrative structures.

At a public address, Reddy leveled accusations against Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's government, contending that the ruling YSRCP has weaponized caste and religious identity for electoral gain. He positioned his political initiative as an alternative focused on substantive governance and protecting religious institutions from what he characterizes as politicization.

The former MP's pronouncements come amid ongoing debates over the management and governance of South India's prominent Hindu temples. His proposals represent a significant policy pitch aimed at voters concerned about the administration of religious institutions and alcohol regulation in the region.
