MANILA — Raul Daza, a longtime congressman who shaped legislative priorities in the Visayas region for more than 50 years, died Thursday, his family announced. The former Northern Samar first district representative was 91.

Daza's family confirmed his peaceful passing in a statement without disclosing additional details about his death or funeral arrangements.

The veteran lawmaker served seven consecutive terms in the House of Representatives between 1969 and 2019, making him one of the longest-serving representatives from the Eastern Visayas region. During his tenure, he focused on issues affecting his constituents in Northern Samar, a province located in the eastern Philippines.

His five-decade legislative career coincided with significant periods in Philippine political history, including the martial law era and the restoration of democracy. Daza's departure marks the end of an era for political representation in Northern Samar.
