Former Supreme Court Justice Bindal named NCLAT chairperson

Justice Rajesh Bindal, who stepped down from the Supreme Court on April 15 after a tenure spanning more than three years, has assumed the position of chairperson at the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

The appointment marks a significant transition for Bindal as he moves from India's highest judicial body to head the specialized appellate tribunal responsible for hearing corporate law matters. The NCLAT functions as an appellate forum for decisions made by the National Company Law Board (NCLT), addressing disputes related to company law, insolvency, and bankruptcy matters.

During his time at the Supreme Court, Bindal handled several notable cases and contributed to the development of judicial precedent in various domains. His experience in the country's top court is expected to bring enhanced expertise and judicial acumen to the leadership of the NCLAT.

The tribunal plays a crucial role in India's corporate dispute resolution framework, handling appeals from NCLT benches across the country. Bindal's appointment comes as the organization continues to manage an expanding caseload stemming from India's growing business sector and increasing corporate restructuring activities.
