Former Tamil Nadu Minister Acquitted in Disproportionate Assets Case
A court in Tamil Nadu has acquitted former minister Anita Radhakrishnan and six others in a disproportionate assets case dating back to their tenure in the AIADMK government. The judge found the prosecution had failed to establish charges of illicit wealth accumulation during their period in office.

The Principal District and Sessions Judge delivered the acquittal after determining that the prosecution had not adequately proven allegations against Radhakrishnan and the co-accused. The case centred on claims that Radhakrishnan had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income while serving as a minister in the AIADMK-led government between 2001 and 2006.
The prosecution's case had sought to establish that unexplained wealth had been amassed in the names of Radhakrishnan, his wife, brothers, and sons during his time in the cabinet. However, the court's findings indicate the evidence presented failed to meet the legal threshold required to sustain such charges.
The acquittal marks the conclusion of a prolonged legal proceeding against the former minister and his co-accused. The case had been one of several investigations into alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of the AIADMK administration that governed Tamil Nadu in the early 2000s.
With the court's decision, all seven accused in the matter have been cleared of the charges brought against them in the disproportionate assets investigation.
