The City of Aurora has completed the initial phase of redevelopment on the sprawling property, which stood vacant after SeaWorld and Six Flags parks ceased operations. The reopened Aurora Park will offer residents and visitors outdoor recreation opportunities centred on the natural lake environment.
The first phase of the project includes renovated seating areas, boating access points, and restored structures dating back to the amusement park era. These facilities are designed to provide immediate recreational value while the broader redevelopment proceeds according to planned phases.
Future expansion plans include the construction of a public beach, playground facilities, and additional recreational amenities. The phased approach allows the city to systematically enhance the site's offerings while managing development costs and community input.
The City of Aurora formally acquired the 48-acre property in December 2024, securing public access rights to the site. The acquisition marks the completion of a significant effort to restore the abandoned land to productive community use. Officials have not disclosed a comprehensive timeline for completing all planned phases of the redevelopment project.
