As the founding mayor of Kuching South, Song played a significant role in establishing the municipal council and overseeing its initial operations and development. His tenure marked an important chapter in the administrative evolution of Kuching's southern district.

Song's death comes after a period of declining health. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the comfort of medical care at Sarawak General Hospital.
