KULIM, Sept 15 — Four boys lost their lives in a drowning incident after falling into a deep drainage channel in Kulim, Kedah, while trying to retrieve a football. The boys, whose ages were not immediately disclosed, ventured into the drain during what appeared to be a recreational outing that turned fatal.
Emergency responders were alerted to the incident and launched a rescue operation at the scene. However, all four boys were pronounced dead following the incident in the drainage system, which authorities say was significantly deeper than initially apparent.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the dangers posed by poorly maintained or unmarked drainage infrastructure in residential and recreational areas. Local authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the exact circumstances of the drowning or the identities of the deceased.
The tragedy underscores recurring risks associated with inadequate safety measures around drainage systems and water channels in populated areas. State and municipal officials are expected to review safety protocols and warning systems at similar locations to prevent future incidents.
