Military and emergency personnel fought the massive fire throughout the night at the Canadian Forces base, with Prime Minister Carney describing the conditions as "some of the worst imaginable" during firefighting operations.
The scale of the disaster prompted a significant coordinated response from multiple agencies, who worked continuously to control the blaze and conduct rescue operations. Initial reports confirmed at least four fatalities, with the injury toll reaching dozens across both military personnel and first responders.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the specific circumstances that led to the outbreak or the exact location of the fire within the sprawling military facility.
The incident marks one of the most serious incidents at a Canadian military installation in recent years. Carney's remarks highlighted the extreme difficulty faced by emergency crews in bringing the massive fire under control amid harsh environmental and structural challenges.
