Four French nationals unaccounted for in Nepal flooding disaster

PARIS - France's minister delegate for French nationals abroad, Eleonore Caroit, confirmed on Friday that four French citizens have not been located following the destructive flash flooding near the Nepal-Tibet frontier.

The disaster struck communities in the border region earlier this week, affecting multiple areas in the high-altitude zone. Flash floods in mountainous terrain such as Nepal's northern districts can occur with little warning and cause significant casualties and displacement.

The French Foreign Ministry indicated that authorities are coordinating with Nepali officials to locate the missing nationals and assess the broader impact on French citizens in the affected region. Search and rescue operations typically face considerable challenges in remote Himalayan areas due to difficult terrain and limited infrastructure.

Nepal frequently experiences flooding and landslides during monsoon seasons, with the mountainous topography increasing the risk of flash flooding in river valleys and populated areas. The country's disaster management authorities have not yet released comprehensive casualty figures for the latest incident.
