Among the four fatalities was a child, according to initial reports from authorities at the scene. A second child was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to hospital for emergency treatment. The exact identities of those involved have not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. Police and highway authorities have urged motorists to exercise heightened caution in the area, particularly during peak travel hours.
