Four Malaysian locations still battling unhealthy air quality

Four locations across Malaysia remained in the unhealthy category for air quality, according to the latest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings. Pasir Gudang and Larkin in Johor, along with IPD Serian and Sri Aman in Sarawak, were the only areas still recording unhealthy API levels.

The persistent poor air quality in these four zones contrasted with improving conditions elsewhere in the country. Most other monitoring stations reported API readings that had moved into healthier ranges, indicating a general trend of air quality improvement across the nation.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with Pasir Gudang and Larkin in the southern Johor region historically prone to air quality challenges. The two Sarawak locations have also faced occasional spikes in pollution levels. Residents in affected areas have been advised to take precautions including limiting outdoor activities and using air purifiers indoors.

The API is used by Malaysian authorities to measure air quality on a scale where readings below 50 indicate good air quality, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. Continued monitoring of these four locations is expected as weather patterns and industrial activities may influence readings.
