Four migrant worker associations call for equal recruitment access

Representatives from migrant worker recruitment associations in Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan have called on Malaysian authorities to grant all licensed agencies equal opportunity to recruit workers under the country's foreign worker management framework. The associations expressed concerns that the current system may be creating unequal conditions for different recruitment bodies operating in the region. The Foreign Worker Management Information System (FWCMS) was designed to streamline and regulate the hiring of overseas workers for Malaysian employers across various sectors. The recruitment bodies argue that transparent and non-discriminatory practices are essential to ensuring fair competition and maintaining the integrity of the worker recruitment process. They have urged Malaysian authorities to review implementation procedures to eliminate any potential barriers that may disadvantage certain licensed agencies, particularly those from smaller source countries. The associations represent significant labour-sending nations that supply workers to Malaysia's manufacturing, construction, domestic help and plantation industries. Officials from the four countries have indicated they plan to engage with Malaysian immigration and labour officials to discuss their concerns and seek clarification on the FWCMS operational guidelines.
