Four Sarawak zones record hazardous air quality; Serian worst hit

Four districts across Sarawak have been classified as experiencing hazardous air quality conditions, according to latest air quality monitoring data. Serian district emerged as the worst-affected area, recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 476, well into the hazardous range that poses immediate health risks to residents.

Three additional zones in the state have also breached the "very unhealthy" threshold, while a further 14 areas have reached unhealthy air quality levels. The widespread deterioration in air quality across multiple districts suggests significant pollution challenges affecting the state.

Hazardous air quality readings typically prompt health advisories urging vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions to remain indoors and limit outdoor activities. Such conditions can also lead to visibility problems affecting transportation and daily activities.
