Four Tamil Nadu railway stations get modern lift-equipped footbridges

Four heritage railway stations built during the British colonial era have been upgraded with modern footbridges fitted with lift facilities to improve commuter convenience. The stations at Vellore Cantonment, Tiruvannamalai, Arakkonam and Vaniyambadi in Tamil Nadu have received the new infrastructure as part of ongoing modernisation efforts by the Indian Railways.

The footbridges equipped with elevators address long-standing accessibility challenges at these stations, particularly benefiting elderly passengers, persons with disabilities, and those carrying heavy luggage. The installations represent a balance between preserving the historical character of these colonial-era structures while incorporating contemporary amenities for daily commuters.
