The mapping and location services provider noted that critical data elements—including speed limits, traffic restrictions, lane configurations and road-sign information—remain scattered across various government agencies and are not readily available in consolidated form. This fragmentation creates operational challenges for companies developing autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technologies that rely on comprehensive, up-to-date road databases.

According to Here Technologies, broader access to this publicly-held data would accelerate the development and deployment of ADAS applications, potentially unlocking significant safety and efficiency benefits for Indian road users. The company has called for increased collaboration between government bodies and private sector technology developers to standardize and share road-related information.
