France to fortify critical infrastructure against Russian hybrid threats

French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday ordered the preparation of a protective strategy for critical infrastructure, citing intensifying Russian hybrid threats targeting Europe and France. Speaking at the Elysee Palace following meetings with political party leaders, Macron specifically highlighted drone attacks and cyberattacks as primary concerns, particularly those targeting sensitive defence industry sites.

The French government has identified Russian hybrid activities as encompassing sabotage, cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns and interference in democratic processes. Macron warned that such attacks would face consequences and accused Moscow of attempting to intimidate European nations into withdrawing support for Ukraine.

"We are not intimidated," Macron stated, emphasising that Europe's security—both present and future—hinges on maintaining resolve regarding Ukraine. The French president underscored that Western unity remains essential in countering what he characterised as an increasingly aggressive Russian posture against European interests.
