France will close or partially suspend operations at between 400 and 500 high schools on Monday due to ongoing student demonstrations, Education Minister Edouard Geffray announced Sunday. The minister stated that lessons would be "totally or partly suspended" at the affected institutions, as security conditions necessary for normal operations had not been satisfied. The widespread closures reflect the scale and intensity of the student-led unrest sweeping through the French education system. Authorities have indicated that at least 24 schools in certain regions face complete closure, while others will operate with limited capacity. The decision comes as French education officials attempt to balance concerns over student safety with maintaining instructional continuity. Regional education authorities have been directed to coordinate directly with individual schools to determine appropriate closure measures and communicate arrangements to parents and students.
