New criminal cases have been filed against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in connection with a protest held on Tuesday in the national capital. The fresh First Information Reports (FIRs) name the two party leaders for alleged assault on police officers and vandalism of a police vehicle during the demonstration.
These cases supplement earlier FIRs registered against the Gandhi siblings and other Congress workers over the same incident. Previous complaints also included allegations of forcible entry into Akashvani Bhavan, the headquarters of All India Radio, located in central Delhi.
The Congress has signaled plans to stage another protest in central Delhi on Thursday, indicating the party's intention to continue its demonstration campaign despite the legal action. Party sources stated the planned gathering would proceed with necessary permits and adherence to prescribed protocols.
The development marks an escalation in tensions between the Congress leadership and law enforcement authorities in Delhi. The police action comes amid broader political tensions in the capital, with the Congress leadership contesting the characterization of events during Tuesday's protest.
