Fresh landslides threaten homes in Sikkim's Rimbi village

Rimbi village in Sikkim is facing escalating danger from a series of landslides that have accelerated since mid-September, threatening multiple residential properties in the region. The repeated mudslides, characterized by the movement of substantial boulders and accumulated debris, have become increasingly hazardous as fresh downpours continue to batter the state.

The recurring geological disturbances began on September 12 and have gathered momentum with the onset of heavy rainfall across Sikkim. Local authorities have expressed concern over the vulnerability of structures situated in the affected zone, where the combination of saturated soil conditions and unstable terrain has created an environment conducive to further ground movement.

Heavy precipitation in recent days has aggravated the situation considerably, increasing the velocity and volume of debris flows moving downslope. The accumulation of large rocks and soil material threatens to cause additional damage to homes and infrastructure in Rimbi village's lower elevations.
