A new weather system moving into Tamil Nadu is expected to maintain intense rainfall activity across the state through October 26, meteorological authorities said on Tuesday. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued orange-level weather alerts for several southern districts, signaling conditions conducive to heavy precipitation.
Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts are among the primary areas placed on alert, with forecasters warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 21 and 22. These districts face the potential for accumulated rainfall exceeding 20 centimetres during the two-day period, the centre said.
The orange alert classification indicates that significant weather impacts are anticipated, requiring residents and local administrations to remain vigilant. Authorities typically advise precautions including monitoring water levels in low-lying areas and ensuring adequate drainage in vulnerable zones.
The incoming system adds to the active monsoon pattern affecting southern India. Residents across the alert zones are being advised to monitor official weather updates as the system approaches and develops over the coming days.
