Fritz, Rybakina advance through challenging US Open third round

Fritz, competing as a home favourite at the US Open, secured his passage to the next stage with a competitive performance against his opponent. The American's victory came as fellow home contender Learner Tien also pushed to extend his surprising run through the tournament.

Rybakina, the Kazakhstani star seeded among the tournament favourites, likewise managed to overcome her third-round challenge. Her progression sets up potential matchups with other leading contenders still in the draw.

Several other heavyweight competitors were also in action during Saturday's matches at the New York Grand Slam venue. Poland's Iga Swiatek and Germany's Alexander Zverev featured among the seeded players battling for berths in the fourth round, with the results shaping the tournament's trajectory in the coming days.

The third round continued to whittle down the field, with the remaining competitors now focused on reaching the latter stages of the championship. The US Open's progression through the weekend matches will determine which players emerge as serious contenders for the title.
