From Kitchen to Classroom: Teen Philanthropist's Food Initiative Reaches 110,000

Anakh Sawhney began Rice Kids in 2018 with a mission rooted in compassion. What started as a nine-year-old's effort to provide meals to hungry children has evolved into a comprehensive social intervention touching the lives of more than 110,000 people across multiple geographies.

The nonprofit now operates across five states in the United States and extends its reach to parts of India. Beyond immediate food assistance, Rice Kids has diversified its approach to include education support, healthcare services and distribution of essential resources to vulnerable communities.

The organisation's work in India has yielded measurable results in educational outcomes. More than half of the students supported through Rice Kids programmes have successfully transitioned back to mainstream education, indicating the effectiveness of its holistic approach to poverty alleviation.

The expansion demonstrates how youth-led initiatives can scale impact across borders. Rice Kids' integrated model addresses interconnected challenges—malnutrition, educational gaps and limited access to healthcare—that often perpetuate cycles of poverty in underserved communities.

The nonprofit's growth underscores growing recognition of the need for sustained, multi-faceted interventions in addressing childhood poverty and food insecurity in both developed and developing economies.
