Fromagerie Gillot has initiated a product recall affecting its range of raw milk cheese following the discovery of possible bacterial contamination. The recall was triggered by concerns over the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), a pathogen that can cause serious foodborne illness.
The company has notified relevant food safety authorities and distributors of the precautionary measure. Retailers stocking the affected cheese products have been instructed to remove them from shelves immediately.
Consumers who have purchased Fromagerie Gillot raw milk cheese are encouraged to check product packaging and batch numbers against recall notices issued by food safety regulators. Those in possession of affected products should refrain from consumption and either return them to the point of purchase or dispose of them appropriately.
Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can cause severe gastrointestinal illness, particularly in vulnerable populations including young children, elderly persons, and those with compromised immune systems. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as severe diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, or fever following consumption of raw milk cheese should seek medical attention and inform healthcare providers of potential STEC exposure.
Further updates regarding the scope and duration of the recall are expected as investigations continue.
