FSSAI cracks down on CG Foods over major safety violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched proceedings against CG Foods for multiple breaches of food safety regulations at its production unit in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The action follows an inspection that revealed alarming lapses in food hygiene and manufacturing standards at the facility.

Investigators found evidence that the company was reprocessing broken noodles collected from factory floors, a practice that poses significant health risks to consumers. The inspection also uncovered unlicensed manufacturing of bhujia, a popular Indian snack, conducted within the premises without proper authorization or compliance with safety protocols.

Additionally, FSSAI officials discovered that CG Foods was engaged in predating packaging materials, a practice that allows companies to misrepresent the actual manufacture date of food products to consumers. This violation undermines transparency and potentially extends the shelf-life claims of products beyond safe limits.

The regulator's action underscores persistent challenges in India's food manufacturing sector, where compliance gaps continue to pose risks to public health. The case is expected to set precedent for enforcement against similar violations in the industry. CG Foods has not yet issued a public response to the regulatory action.
