The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has intensified scrutiny of misleading advertisements in the food and wellness sector, targeting three major corporations including Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Nestle India, and Flipkart for violations of advertising standards. The notices mark a significant enforcement action against firms accused of making unsubstantiated health claims and deceptive product representations to consumers.
In parallel enforcement operations, the regulator suspended the operating licence of Shreyash Retail following discovery of expired and deteriorated food products at its facilities. The suspension underscores FSSAI's zero-tolerance approach toward retailers compromising food quality standards, with inspections revealing stored items unfit for human consumption.
Additionally, the authority initiated prosecution proceedings against Nex International for violations related to pesticide residue levels exceeding permissible limits in food products. The action reflects heightened regulatory vigilance over chemical contamination in the food supply chain, protecting consumers from potential health hazards.
The enforcement actions demonstrate FSSAI's multi-pronged strategy to ensure consumer protection across retail, manufacturing, and e-commerce sectors. Officials have signalled continued monitoring of advertising practices and supply chain compliance, with further action anticipated as investigations progress across the sector.
