FSSAI launches crackdown on food safety violations across six companies

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has escalated its enforcement action against multiple food and dairy manufacturers for violations of safety and hygiene standards. The regulator has begun prosecution proceedings against Surya Food and Agro, Dodla Dairy, and Ueir Organic Foods, marking the most serious level of regulatory action available to the authority.

The prosecution against Surya Food and Agro, which produces the popular Priyagold brand of biscuits, stems from the detection of cattle bran in finished biscuit products. The inclusion of cattle feed material in food products intended for human consumption represents a critical breach of food safety protocols and manufacturing standards.

Beyond the prosecution cases, the FSSAI has issued compliance notices to three other food operators over similar food safety and hygiene violations. These notices serve as formal warnings requiring immediate corrective action and heightened adherence to regulatory requirements.

The crackdown reflects the FSSAI's intensified focus on ensuring compliance across the food manufacturing sector. The agency continues to conduct inspections and testing to identify contamination, adulterations, and process violations that pose potential risks to consumer health.
