The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken enforcement action against two entities over separate food safety breaches, signalling a continued crackdown on non-compliant food businesses across the country.
Marche Retail's operating licence has been suspended for a 30-day period effective immediately, the regulator announced following an inspection that revealed serious violations of food safety norms and licensing requirements. The suspension prevents the retail outlet from conducting food business operations during this period.
In a parallel action, the FSSAI has issued a prohibition order against SDP Industries, barring the company from manufacturing and selling ghee products. The order stems from test reports indicating adulteration in the company's ghee samples, which pose potential health risks to consumers.
These enforcement measures underscore the FSSAI's commitment to maintaining food safety standards across the supply chain. Food businesses found in violation of safety regulations face escalating penalties, from warnings and fines to operational suspensions and product bans, depending on the severity of non-compliance.
