Drug smuggler Aqib Bashir has been recaptured in Jalandhar, Punjab, days after escaping from the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu. The arrest followed a coordinated operation involving the NCB, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and Punjab Police.
Bashir, who had been in NCB custody on drug trafficking charges, managed to flee from the Jammu facility but remained a priority target for multiple law enforcement agencies. Following his escape, investigators tracked his movements across state lines as he attempted to evade capture.
In a bid to avoid detection, the fugitive underwent a physical transformation, altering his appearance in hopes of slipping past police checkpoints and identification efforts. However, the strategy proved unsuccessful as the combined efforts of the three agencies closed in on his location.
The inter-state operation demonstrates the enhanced coordination between drug enforcement and regional police forces in tackling organized narcotic trafficking networks. Bashir has been taken into custody and is now facing additional charges related to his escape from lawful detention.
