Furniture Express rail corridor cuts export costs for Rajasthan firms

The Furniture Express service has emerged as a game-changer for Rajasthan's furniture sector, streamlining the movement of goods from production hubs in Jodhpur to one of India's premier maritime gateways at Mundra Port in Gujarat. Since its launch, the rail corridor has successfully transported more than 2,100 containers through 36 dedicated train movements, addressing longstanding logistical challenges that have constrained the region's export competitiveness.

Rajasthan's furniture industry, concentrated heavily around Jodhpur, has historically struggled with inconsistent container availability and elevated transportation costs that eroded profit margins on international shipments. The dedicated rail service circumvents traditional trucking routes and port congestion, offering exporters a more predictable and cost-effective alternative for moving finished goods to maritime terminals.

The improved logistics pipeline is expected to provide relief to small and medium-sized furniture manufacturers who form the backbone of the sector.
