GAIL doubles net profit to ₹4,724 crore on strong operational performance

GAIL's financial performance in the second quarter of the current fiscal year reflected strong operational momentum, with net profit climbing to ₹4,724 crore compared to ₹1,984 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The substantial growth was underpinned by increased volumes across the company's core gas transmission and marketing segments, signalling robust demand for natural gas across India's energy landscape.

The improved profitability comes at a time when India's energy sector is witnessing heightened activity as the country pursues its energy security objectives. GAIL, which operates as a critical infrastructure entity in the nation's gas distribution network, has benefited from this broader market momentum.

In a significant corporate development, GAIL's board of directors has approved a proposal to list GAIL Gas Limited, the company's subsidiary, through an initial public offering. The planned IPO represents a strategic step to unlock value and broaden the shareholder base of the gas marketing and distribution unit.

The listing of GAIL Gas is expected to provide the subsidiary with greater operational autonomy and enhanced access to capital markets, enabling accelerated expansion of gas distribution infrastructure across India. This move aligns with the broader government objective of expanding natural gas availability and penetration in domestic and industrial segments.
