Galle Face Capital to launch Rs. 2bn rights issue

The investment firm plans a one-for-one rights offering to reduce short-term debt obligations. The capital raising initiative aims to strengthen the company's balance sheet.

Galle Face Capital has announced plans for a Rs. 2 billion rights issue on a one-for-one basis to shareholders, as part of efforts to lower its short-term debt burden. The rights offering will allow existing shareholders to purchase additional shares in proportion to their current holdings at a predetermined price.

The capital raising exercise is designed to improve the company's financial position by reducing dependence on short-term borrowings. By converting debt into equity through this mechanism, Galle Face Capital seeks to enhance its long-term financial stability and creditworthiness.

The one-for-one structure means that shareholders will be entitled to purchase one new share for every share currently held. This approach maintains existing shareholding proportions while providing the company with fresh capital to meet its obligations.

The move reflects broader trends among financial services firms in Sri Lanka to strengthen balance sheets amid challenging economic conditions. Rights issues have become an increasingly common tool for companies seeking to raise funds while minimizing shareholder dilution through alternative mechanisms.
