Gandhi attacks police over student protest crackdowns, vows legal action

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on police actions during student protests, asserting that while authorities may resort to force, they cannot suppress the spirit of satyagraha.

Gandhi said his party would pursue every available legal avenue against officers accused of excessive force, spanning cases in Kerala, Rajasthan and national courts. He specifically criticized what he described as brutality by Delhi Police, attributing responsibility to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

"Brutality by Amit Shah's Delhi Police will not go unchecked," the opposition leader said, signaling the Congress party's commitment to holding law enforcement accountable through legal proceedings.

The remarks come as student-led protests have intensified across several states in recent weeks, with reports of police using force to disperse demonstrations. Gandhi's statement reflects broader opposition concerns about the handling of student activism and the use of state machinery against dissenting groups.

The Congress has indicated it would document cases and work through both state-level investigations and court proceedings to address alleged misconduct by police personnel involved in the incidents.
