Gandhi highlights India's non-vegetarian food culture after BRICS dinner
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has highlighted that 80 per cent of Indians are non-vegetarian, countering questions about an all-vegetarian menu served at the BRICS Summit gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha posted on social media platforms X, Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, asserting that Indian non-vegetarian cuisine is "delicious." His comments came a day after the BRICS Summit gala dinner at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday featured an elaborate all-vegetarian spread.
In his post, Gandhi stated: "For the record: 80% of Indians are non-vegetarian. Indian non-vegetarian food is delicious." He accompanied the message with a photograph of chole bhature, also noting the culinary merit of the dish prepared by his sister.
The gala dinner menu included vegetarian starters such as 'khandvi', a steamed gram-flour roll, and 'khumb galouti', pan-grilled mushroom kebabs with mint pearls. The main course offerings included 'paneer lababdar' and 'gucchi marmik', featuring Himalayan morel mushrooms and tender asparagus.
Gandhi's remarks appear designed to bring attention to the dietary preferences of India's majority population, as the BRICS Summit, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, saw its official dinner menu deviate from the eating habits of a significant portion of the Indian populace.
