President Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary, emphasizing that his teachings have acquired renewed significance in the current geopolitical climate. "On behalf of all citizens, I pay my respectful tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 157th birth anniversary, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti," she said in a statement.

With wars and conflicts affecting nations across the globe, the President stressed that Gandhi's message of peace and non-violence has become increasingly relevant. "Today, an atmosphere of war and conflict prevails in many parts of the world, affecting all nations. In these circumstances, Mahatma Gandhi's message of peace and non-violence becomes even more relevant," Murmu said.

The President noted that Mahatma Gandhi's life and ideals continue to command widespread respect from the international community. She also linked the Mahatma's values to India's development agenda, noting that the nation is progressing towards the goal of becoming "Viksit Bharat" by 2047, with emphasis on empathy and inclusion to ensure equitable development for all citizens.
