Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most significant festivals celebrated across India, will commence on September 14 this year. The festival, which honours Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom and prosperity, witnesses widespread participation from devotees who install clay idols in homes and public spaces.
During the ten-day festive period, devotees will engage in traditional rituals including prayers, offerings of modak (sweet dumplings), coconut, and jaggery to the elephant-headed deity. Many households and communities organise elaborate celebrations, featuring music, dance, and cultural performances that reflect the region's rich traditions.
The festival will culminate on September 25 with the immersion ceremony, a significant ritual where Ganesh idols are ceremonially immersed in water bodies. This practice, symbolising the deity's departure, draws thousands of devotees who participate in processions accompanying their household and community idols.
