Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru claimed the bronze medal in men's individual compound archery at the ongoing Asian Games, capping a strong personal display with a commanding victory over Vietnam's Cong Duc Dang in the third-place playoff. The Indian archer won the match 149-144, demonstrating exceptional accuracy with 14 successful shots out of 15 attempts.
The medal adds to Ganesh's achievements at the Games, following his contribution to India's gold-winning men's team compound archery unit on Wednesday. However, the quarterfinal quarterfinalist fell short of the podium's top spots after a semifinal loss to South Korea's Kim Jongho, who prevailed 148-144 in a closely contested match.
Throughout the semifinal, Ganesh struggled to maintain consistency, trailing from the outset and succumbing across five sets with a final scoreline of 29-30, 29-30, 29-28, 29-30, 28-30. The loss denied him an opportunity to contest for the gold medal.
Earlier in the day at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, the Indian archer had advanced to the semifinals with an impressive quarterfinal triumph over Chinese Taipei's Chieh-Lun Chen. Ganesh dominated that encounter 148-138, securing all five sets with commanding scores of 29-28, 29-28, 30-29, 30-26, and 30-27.
