Gang steals ECRL cables, TM infrastructure targeted in Pahang

Authorities in Pahang are cracking down on organized cable theft rings operating across the state's central region. Police reported two cases of robbery targeting ECRL cable storage facilities alongside five separate incidents of Telekom Malaysia (TM) infrastructure theft since last month in areas around Temerloh, Mentakab, and Lanchang.

The coordinated thefts have resulted in significant financial losses, with damage assessments totaling more than RM75,000. The incidents point to organized criminal networks systematically targeting high-value telecommunications and rail infrastructure across the three districts.

Investigations are ongoing to identify all gang members involved and recover stolen materials. Police have intensified patrols and surveillance operations in affected areas as authorities work to dismantle the theft networks and prevent further incidents.

The cases underscore growing concerns over cable theft targeting Malaysia's critical infrastructure. Such thefts pose operational risks to telecommunications services and the East Coast Rail Link project while creating safety hazards for public utilities.
