Ganga floods devastate newlywed's home in Bihar

A dream of building a new life with his bride turned to tragedy for Priyam Kumar of English Bustee in Sabour, Bhagalpur district, when the Ganga River claimed his home in a sudden surge. Around 2 a.m., the brick structure collapsed into the rushing waters, leaving the family with virtually nothing salvaged from their possessions.

The devastating flood claimed nearly all of the household's belongings, sparing only a bicycle and a cow—possessions that would prove crucial for the family's survival in the days ahead. The couple and their relatives scrambled to safety as the waters rose, retreating to higher ground as their home disappeared beneath the river's current.

With no shelter of their own, the family has taken refuge in the local panchayat building, where they have established a makeshift home. The cow has become their lifeline, providing milk that family members sell in the local market to earn a meager income for daily sustenance.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of riverside communities in Bihar to seasonal flooding, with the Ganga claiming homes and livelihoods each monsoon season. Authorities have yet to announce relief measures or rehabilitation assistance for the affected family.
