Gas shortage forces production halt at 300+ Narsingdi factories
Industrial output in Narsingdi district has ground to a halt as an acute gas crisis forces over 300 manufacturing facilities to suspend operations. The shortage threatens production timelines and poses risks to the region's economy.

More than 300 factories across Narsingdi district have ceased production due to severe gas shortages, dealing a significant blow to one of Bangladesh's key industrial hubs. The supply disruption has forced plant managers to idle machinery and send workers home as energy supplies dwindle.
Manufacturers in the district, which hosts numerous garment, ceramic, and chemical plants, reported receiving insufficient gas to maintain operations. Factory owners warned that prolonged shortages could lead to missed export deadlines and financial losses, particularly affecting orders destined for international markets.
The crisis comes at a time when Bangladesh is grappling with national energy challenges stemming from declining gas reserves and increased demand from industrial and domestic consumers. Narsingdi, located near Dhaka, has long depended on consistent gas supplies to sustain its manufacturing sector, which employs tens of thousands of workers.
Authorities have not yet announced a timeline for resolving the shortages or measures to prioritize industrial supply restoration. Industry associations have called for immediate government intervention to prevent further economic damage to the region.
