MANILA – Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday directed local government units and concerned national agencies, including the Bureau of Animal Industry, to conduct comprehensive inspections and audits of all operating pet service providers throughout the country.
Gatchalian's call encompassed a broad range of pet-related businesses, with particular emphasis on pet crematoriums, signaling growing concerns over unregulated operations within the sector.
The Senate leader stressed that local authorities and relevant agencies must verify that all pet service providers maintain valid business licenses and comply with environmental regulations. He emphasized the importance of establishing and enforcing clear operational standards across the industry to protect both animals and the public.
The directive underscores ongoing efforts to regulate the pet services industry, which has expanded significantly in recent years as more Filipinos seek professional care and end-of-life services for their animals.
