NEW YORK — Coco Gauff mounted an impressive comeback at the US Open quarterfinals, recovering from a one-set deficit to overcome fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva and book her place in the semi-finals.
The American faced a precarious situation midway through the second set when Andreeva held two match points, but Gauff refused to capitulate. She saved both opportunities and forced a tiebreaker, which she ultimately won 7-5 to level the match.
Having stabilised her campaign, Gauff dominated the third set, breaking serve twice to claim a commanding 6-2 victory and seal her semi-final berth. The result came after a disastrous opening set where she conceded the first six games without response, leaving her facing an uphill task against the 16-year-old Andreeva.
Gauff's triumph demonstrates her competitive resilience and continues her strong showing at Flushing Meadows, where she remains in contention for the title.
