Gaza flour shortage threatens closure of seven bakeries

GAZA — Seven bakeries across Gaza are at risk of shutting down operations due to acute shortages of commercial flour supplies, threatening to worsen food security in the territory.

The shortage has been triggered by Israel's closure of border crossings throughout the past week. Although some crossing points have since partially reopened, authorities have not permitted commercial flour to enter Gaza, compounding supply chain disruptions.

Bakers have warned that without immediate access to flour stocks, they will be forced to cease production, further limiting access to bread—a staple food for Gaza's population. The closure has exacerbated existing humanitarian challenges in the territory.

The border restrictions remain a critical bottleneck for essential goods entering Gaza. International humanitarian organizations have expressed concern over the widening gap between demand for basic commodities and available supplies reaching residents.
