Gaza's infrastructure, economy in ruins after three years of conflict

The Gaza Strip faces unprecedented challenges across multiple sectors following three years of intense conflict that has systematically damaged critical infrastructure and public institutions. Healthcare facilities have been rendered largely non-functional, with hospitals damaged or destroyed and medical supplies critically depleted, severely hampering the population's access to essential services. The education system has experienced similar collapse, with schools damaged and learning disrupted for hundreds of thousands of students whose academic progress has been interrupted.

Economic activity has virtually ceased across the territory, with businesses destroyed, markets shuttered and employment opportunities eliminated for the majority of the population. The damage to power generation facilities and water supply systems has created additional humanitarian challenges, as residents struggle to access basic utilities required for sanitation and daily survival.

Infrastructure degradation extends across transport networks, communication systems and municipal services that previously supported civilian life. Aid organizations report that the cumulative destruction has created a humanitarian crisis affecting food security, shelter availability and overall living conditions for Gaza's population.

The territorial economy, already constrained by years of blockade and restrictions, has contracted further due to the physical destruction of productive capacity. Reconstruction efforts face significant obstacles given the ongoing security situation and limited access for development initiatives, leaving long-term economic recovery uncertain.
