GE Aerospace Accelerates Tejas Fighter Jet Production With Engine Deliveries

General Electric Aerospace delivered four F404-IN20 engines destined for the Tejas light combat aircraft in September 2026, signalling renewed momentum in the indigenous fighter jet programme. The engines, which power India's homegrown fighter, represent a critical component in accelerating the production schedule at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The supply chain improvement comes after earlier production bottlenecks that had constrained the delivery rate of aircraft to the Indian Air Force. With the engine supply now ramping up, HAL and air force officials anticipate a notable uptick in Tejas manufacturing capacity in the coming months.

The continued partnership between GE Aerospace, HAL, and the Indian Air Force underscores the integrated approach to sustaining India's domestic defence production capabilities. The F404-IN20 variants have been specifically developed for integration with the Tejas platform, enabling sustained operations across the country's fighter fleet requirements.

The Tejas programme, which has progressed through multiple development phases since its inception, has achieved operational status with the Indian Air Force. The acceleration in engine deliveries reflects broader efforts to modernise India's air combat capability through indigenous design and manufacturing.
