GE Aerospace delivers three more engines for Tejas fighter jets

General Electric Aerospace has handed over three more F404-IN20 jet engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Tejas MK1A fighter program, marking continued progress in India's indigenous combat aircraft development.

The latest consignment builds on previous deliveries, with HAL having now received a total of ten engines from the American aerospace manufacturer. The F404-IN20 is the primary powerplant for the light combat aircraft, with each Tejas requiring one engine.

HAL is expected to receive up to 22 engines by December, a supply schedule that will enable the state-owned aerospace company to maintain momentum in Tejas MK1A production. The MK1A variant represents an upgraded version of the original Tejas, incorporating enhanced avionics, increased fuel capacity, and improved combat capabilities.

The steady flow of engines from GE Aerospace addresses a critical supply chain requirement for the indigenously developed fighter program. India has prioritized ramping up Tejas production as it seeks to modernize its combat fleet and reduce dependence on imported military aircraft.
