Gen-Z students stage march over crumbling school infrastructure in Jharkhand

Young students in Koderma district, Jharkhand, have intensified pressure on local administration over deteriorating conditions at a government school where over 2,500 students are served by just 10 teachers.

The Gen-Z protesters, frustrated by classrooms where up to eight students share a single bench, organized a 10-kilometer march to the block headquarters to demand immediate action. The demonstration underscored the scale of infrastructure challenges facing public schools across the state, where resource constraints have created an untenable learning environment.

The student contingent presented authorities with a 15-day ultimatum to address the critical gaps in teaching staff and classroom facilities. Local officials have been asked to submit a concrete action plan for improving the school's infrastructure and hiring additional teachers to reduce the student-teacher ratio.

The protest reflects growing frustration among younger generations about the state of public education in India's eastern states. Education experts have long flagged the severe shortage of teachers and physical infrastructure as major obstacles to quality learning outcomes in government schools across Jharkhand.

The district administration has acknowledged the complaints and indicated willingness to review resource allocation to the institution.
