KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — General Santos City authorities have suspended classes at all educational levels and suspended work in government offices Thursday after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake rattled the region.
The city government announced the suspension through an advisory posted on its official social media account, LGU Gensan: Tatak Heneral. The earthquake originated off the coast of Davao Occidental and was felt across various parts of Mindanao, prompting local officials to take precautionary measures.
The suspension covers all public and private schools in the city as well as government agencies, allowing residents and workers to remain in safer locations while seismic activity is monitored. Local authorities did not immediately report significant damage from the tremor.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology continues to assess the earthquake's impact and monitor the area for any aftershocks that may follow the initial temblor.
