MANILA — Legislation creating a national geriatric center has advanced significantly after receiving ratification from the Bicameral Conference Committee on Tuesday, positioning the measure for final legislative approval.
House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" G. Dy III confirmed the committee's action, describing the development as progress toward a longstanding policy objective. The speaker characterized the ratification as honoring a pledge made during memorial services for the late Batanes Representative Ciriaco Gato.
The geriatric center bill now moves through the final stages of the legislative process. With bicameral approval secured, the measure requires only presidential signature to become law.
The establishment of a dedicated geriatric center is intended to address healthcare needs for the country's aging population, a demographic segment expected to grow significantly in coming decades. The facility would provide specialized medical services and support for elderly Filipinos.
