Germany backs Munich bid for future Olympic Games hosting
Germany has selected Munich as its candidate to host a future Olympic Games, following Berlin's decision to withdraw from the bidding process. If successful, it would mark the third time the country has hosted the Summer or Winter Olympics.

Munich has been chosen as Germany's official candidate city to host a future Olympic Games, the German Olympic Committee announced, stepping back from Berlin's previous bid. The Bavarian capital's selection comes after Berlin opted out of the race to secure hosting rights, citing budgetary and logistical concerns.
Munich, which last hosted the Summer Olympics in 1972, brings considerable experience and existing sports infrastructure to its candidacy. The city's established venues and organisational capacity have positioned it as a strong contender in the International Olympic Committee's selection process.
If Munich is ultimately selected by the IOC, Germany would join an elite group of nations to host the Olympics on three separate occasions. The country previously hosted the 1936 Berlin Summer Games and the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, as well as the 1936 Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The IOC is expected to make its decision on host cities through a revised bidding process that gives candidate cities greater flexibility in their planning and reduces upfront costs and disruption for prospective hosts.
